The last chapter of the novel is entitled: The Wedding Cake. In this chapter Northumbria and Flanders Cove become one! This Connie Francis album is an important influence in the final pages of the novel.

There are several motifs that are developed within the novel.

The Northumbria Belgian waffles! Bertha's creation. Recipe included!

Flanders Cove trifle! Daisy's creation.

Food Motif

Stained Glass Motif A Garden Scene       (similar to this one) The stained glass window dominated one wall of the mansion at Flanders Cove.

Quilt Motif Iris was the quilter, her quilt received  numerous state and national recognitions. Her quilt personalized the family treasures. (Like the photo to the left, flowers were prominent on the quilt.)

Garden Motif The flowers of "The Bouqet" were everywhere on the Flanders Cove estate.

Faith: Spiritual Motif The central characters are individuals of great faith; it is their faith that sustains them throughout their journey. A private healing service is a turning point in the love story!
